Why PES Will Never Be Better Than FIFA
WRITTEN BY JASON SEWALD
Just looking at this you can already guess where I stand on this topic, but I wanna stress that I do NOT like FIFA, I just prefer it to PES because despite FIFA’s many problems (justified or not) it is still and always will be better, with the exception of PES 06, but hey every dog has his day. Needless to say these are purely my opinions and you should not take them as fact but chances are I’m right anyway so it really doesn’t matter (just kidding…). Now that being said let’s get into why PES will never be better than FIFA.
FIFA is far more popular than any other top-selling sports game in the industry, now I know it’s not much of an argument for why a game would be better than another but the fact that it has more appeal among the masses says a lot more than people would care to admit. The popularity of the game is due to many factors and in all honesty you can’t really pinpoint the reason, however if I were to guess, it is because of the insanely popular FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) mode on the game. This mode made use of the fact that players always wanted to have their own cast of superstars playing together whereas otherwise you couldn’t, of course PES and other games have tried to imitate this mode but they are exactly just that, imitations. No sports game has quite captured the addictive fun that FUT has to offer and I don’t think any game let alone PES will ever do that.
New Frostbite Engine
The new FIFA 17 as well as other EA titles are going to be using a new engine to make their games more realistic and having the word realistic attached to any game is a sure-fire way to get any gamers button-mashing-fingers itchy. All jokes aside the new engine EA is going to be using makes the game look better than ever before and I can only say that the sports games such as Madden and NBA Live will reach new heights along with FIFA of course. However we cannot jump to conclusions because we are only seeing what they choose to show us, if by some chance it does not come out as good in-game I might have to retract this statement, but for now FIFA’s new engine looks to be better than what PES is using for their upcoming title PES 17.
Similar to my earlier point the new frostbite engine makes the players look so real you would easily be forgiven for thinking they are actually real. However until we see the debut of the new engine, the current engine EA uses still makes the players and the whole game look better than PES. PES hasn’t done a bad job either trying to keep up to be perfectly honest but a massive blunder in PES 2015 made Hal Robson-Kanu into someone else. To be fair not many will care that much because he isn’t exactly a superstar and this was back in 2015, however that is extremely negligent on their part and quite frankly a spit on the players face if you think about it. Just because you don’t have the stature of players from Real Madrid or Bayern that shouldn’t mean that the developers should cut corners on creating an accurate representation of some players who play for lower leagues, that in my eyes is incredibly negligent and quite embarrising for a game trying to be better than FIFA.
Despite what I have said there are some points where PES may still follow FIFA closely behind such as having the rights to the Champions league and more recently having partnered with Barcelona and Dortmund, these things will surely have fans switching franchises but not enough to give EA a headache because they have more licences, but they are blows nonetheless.
I hope I have given sufficient evidence as to why FIFA is and always will be better, but if you’re not satisfied look at the picture of Hal Robson-Kanu again.
P.S if you havent noticed or if you have, I decided not use gameplay as a reason for why it’s better because I just find the differences so minute it’s difficult to say which is better in my opinion, and even if its better (which seems to be the general consensus) look at the picture of Hal Robson-Kanu again.
