Tommy Genesis brought her confidence and outlandish style to Oslo Hackney
Words by Karan Teli
After some previous cancelled appearances over the years, Awful Records female Tommy Genesis made sure she tore down Oslo Hackney when she came to London last week.
Tommy didn’t take the stage until 10PM, but the crowd was warmed up by the opening acts and Tommy’s DJ, so the energy in the room was always on high. Of course, when Tommy took the stage, it was taken to another level. From the very first song, she wasn’t hesitant to get the crowd involved. Sing-alongs, semi stage dives and even bringing fans on stage to dance and rap the features on her songs were all apart of the Tommy Genesis concert experience.
The intimacy of Oslo Hackney allowed Tommy to directly connect with her fans, often coming to the edge of the stage to pick and choose people she would rap directly to (who, more than likely, would be screaming the words right back at her).
Tommy took time after the show to surf around the venue and allow fans to take pictures, share conversations and most importantly… be fans. If someone was getting too excited because they were standing next to their favourite artists, she joined in the excitement with them and made them feel like they were both experiencing a moment they had been waiting for. That’s more a testament to the person behind the artist, which is not something you see everyday.
