Peter Xan releases new melodic single ‘Swagie’ with accompanying Sonni Rossi directed video
Written by Karan Teli
Peter Xan, a member of Sydney Wyatt; a Hip-Hop and creative collective, is redefining the meaning of melodic Hip-Hop in the UK. Taking inspirations from a range of genres and artists, ranging from melodic Hip-Hop stars such as Travis Scott and Quavo, all the way to Pop and Afrobeats, Peter Xan merges these all together to create a genre of music that may not even exist in the UK yet.
Rather than writing rhymes for days before entering the studio, Peter Xan usually freestyles his lyrics in order to capture specific feelings and moods while creating his music, with the effect of changing your mood in 3 minutes. This is exactly what occurs on his latest single; Swagie. With an incredibly catchy and repetitive hook, that you’ll find yourself singing along to on your first listen is the perfect example of a Peter Xan melody. The second half of the song, before the final chorus, features extremely stretched out and distorted vocals that creates a mood in the listener that a lot of UK music just seems to be missing in 2018.
The accompanying video, shot in Berlin, Germany by director Sonni Rossi, is shot in what looks like a high end fashion store, co-starring Sydney Wyatt’s Groovy Mel and Kwaleo’s Laurenzo. The visuals are aesthetically pleasing; similar to that of A$AP Rocky’s L$D or Travis Scott’s Butterfly Effect videos, but fit perfectly with the song itself.
Peter Xan has shown versatility in his music career so far, so it’s possible that his next single may not sound anything like Swagie, but if this is the direction that Peter Xan is heading towards, were all here for it.
