Olivia Nelson shines in first ever headline performance at Servant Jazz Quarters
Written by Karan Teli
After hearing Olivia Nelson – Hideaway on an episode of Reprezent Radio’s Brown x Blue I was a fan. She announced on that very show that on February 19th, she would be performing at Servant Jazz Quarters. It was a no-brainier for me to go.
In the completely packed out, intimate Servant Jazz Quarters, supported by an entire band and two background singers, Olivia Nelson took the stage to perform the outstanding tracks that had accumulated her over 100,000 Soundcloud plays. She played her most vulnerable and heartfelt songs, including Hideaway, the song that introduced me to Olivia. She performed an powerful acapella which made the crowd and Olivia herself overcome with emotion.
It wasn’t just tearjerkers and emotional ballads though. Olivia shut the stage down with upbeat, garage and dance inspired songs like her original Cleopatra, along with a stripped down cover of Disclosure’s hit song White Noise. Her band got a share of the spotlight too, with piano, drum and guitar solos all appearing throughout Olivia’s 45 minute set.
A thoroughly enjoyable performance and night, thanks to Olivia Nelson. I’m looking forward to more new music and bigger performances from the upcoming star.
