MAYWEATHER VS MCGREGOR
WRITTEN BY TAYO ADEBOYE
Lunacy. That is the only word that can describe this debauchery of a event. The worlds of boxing and Mixed Martial Arts come together August 2017 for one hell of an evening. Floyd Mayweather; undefeated and arguably the best boxer of a generation will step into the squared circle one last time for a showdown against MMA superstar Conor McGregor for what will be a billion dollar showcase.
Leaving out the all the trash talk and acting from both camps, let’s stick to the real question that needs to be answered. Who will win? The fact that some are genuinely unsure or suggest that McGregor might just pull off the biggest upset since the dawn time shows they know nothing of boxing. So let’s review the facts.
I must admit Conor McGregor is an outstanding UFC fighter with great striking ability and excellently counter-punching. With that being said, that is all he is; a UFC fighter. Striking and boxing are two extremely different things as I am sure he will find out Saturday. To make things even more lopsided whilst I do accept Connor is a professional fighter, he’s never had a professional boxing fight! The Octagon and the squared circle are two extremely different arenas. Look at all of the world champions who’ve been fighting all their lives Floyd has taken down; and you mean to tell me of all people Connor McGregor is the one to beat him? I think even an ostrich with the sense God gave a rock would tell you pigs will fly before Conor takes that victory.
Now to avoid being biased (which by the way is nearly impossible) I have to give Conor what every fighter deserves; a fighting chance. As a UFC fighter his unorthodox style and perspective may cause Mayweather some slight frustration, and he does hit fairly hard so if by some miracle he manages to find Mayweather’s chin we just might be in for an interesting night of boxing.
To put it simply folks, unless Conor somehow manages to smuggle some dynamite into that ring I don’t see any chance of victory in his future. I have to take my hat off to him though, earning millions that many can only dream about and taking on one of the toughest opponents of all time in his boxing debut you have to respect the man and his determination. However, skills pay the bills! And Mayweather’s bank balance pretty much says the rest.
