AJ Tracey brings his raps and riddims to a sold out O2 Academy Brixton
Words by Karan Teli
In the midst of his World Tour, AJ Tracey came home. The West Londoner came to the city he was raised, to a sold out O2 Academy Brixton. With a capacity of nearly 5000, it was a proud, humbling moment for the superstar rapper and a showcase to just how far he has come (just two years ago he was performing at XOYO, as the support act for Lil Tracey).
When AJ Tracey took the stage, all you could see was his blacked out silhouette up against an all red backdrop as he rapped ‘Plan B’, but that didn’t stop the crowd going crazy. Each time he took a step closer to the audience, the more the cheers erupted. As the show went on, the background behind him began to change; lit up with bright colours and effects, flames and fireworks went off all night, and an abundance of special guests, who AJ Tracey proudly called his family, took the stage with him.
Among these guests was Dave, fresh of his Number 1 album PSYCHODRAMA and ‘Butterflies’ collaborator Not3s (it’s safe to say, that song went off the most). The crowd was in constant sing-along throughout the entire chorus, but to tell the truth, they pretty much rapped and sang along with every word AJ said. A testament to a great and engaging performer, who knows how to put on a show.
The show ended with Thiago Silva, Pasta and Doing It; 3 of AJ’s biggest songs to date, which made sure everyone went home with high energy, probably ready for an after party. I’m not sure AJ would have wanted it any other way.
