7 Video Games We Used To Play All The Time
WRITTEN BY JASON SEWALD
The people of earth always have had some weird obsession with the past, especially the ones born in the 90s. Because of this obsession we see a lot of our favourite games from the past make a comeback e.g Ratchet & Clank remake, the soon to come Crash Bandicoot and the recently announced original NES. With all these things making a comeback it really does make one want to take a trip down memory lane, so here are 7 games we used to play all the time.
In all fairness I could’ve replaced this with Street Fighter 2 but I didn’t because in my honest opinion I believe Tekken to be the better than Street Fighter and Tekken 3 to be the best of the series (I will get back to this on a later date). That being said Tekken really was the best looking fighter out at the time and it had such a variety of fighters which gave a lot of us heaps of fun for hours and hours. Despite being a generic fighter what really sets Tekken apart from other fighters is that it has an ongoing story with the games main characters and if you pay enough attention and puzzle the pieces together you get an excellent story which just adds more to the already excellent game that it is.
Tomb Raider II
If there is one thing you, me or anyone remembers from this game it would have to be the butler. The butler is definitely up there with the most annoying characters in video game history, the way he follows you to hell and back is nothing short of admirable if this was in real life but since it was in a game it was just creepy and irritating, so locking him in the meat freezer was the best thing ever. Aside from the actual game which wasn’t bad locking the butler is by far the most fun and memorable thing to do and I’m sure a lot of people will agree.
Crash Bandicoot (Any)
The Crash Bandicoot series from the Playstation 1 era were one of the best platform games out at the time and I would not blame anyone if they were to say that the series is THE best platformer of that era. Having endearing characters and fantastic gameplay this game quickly made their way into the hearts of kids and adults alike and we have not looked back since.
Super Mario 64
Mario is easily one of the most recognizable face in video games if not the most recognizable face in video game history, so it’s no wonder why this title is here. Being the first Mario game that made the jump to 3D people were worried that it would fail but once the game hit the stores the worries were blown away by the instant success this game had. Great visuals, fantastic level design and just over all enjoyment made this game so amazing and not many would disagree.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
What else can be said about this game other than it is a complete masterpiece and a strong candidate for the best game of all time. With one of the best silent character (also the most commonly mistaken character) in the world and a mesmerizing story this game was only made better by the gameplay which had you solving puzzles and beating enemies for days on end. This game truly is one of the best there ever was and it deserves all the praise it has gotten.
Mario Kart 64
This game is the one and only game that can turn the best of friends into worst enemies, the amount of friendships it has destroyed is probably close to a quintillion. Aside for the friendship killing it is notorious for the game offered a great multiplayer experience with fun-filled and wacky tracks, one track that really sticks to me is the Rainbow Road, it was an incredibly difficult track with the most difficult shortcut in the game but once you were able to clear that shortcut the satisfaction you receive is hard to put in words. Mario Kart 64 is without a doubt my favourite in the series because of the joy it has brought me and many gamers alike at the time.
GTA San Andreas
I know that most of us weren’t old enough to actually play this game but we didn’t care, that being said it is the best GTA in the series and also another contender for one of the best games ever. The story was a classic rags to riches story with many twists, the characters were memorable and the cast included some heavy hitters such as Samuel L. Jackson and James Wood. I could go on and on about this but back then we didn’t care who was in it, all we cared about was how much fun we could have and boy did we have fun, from getting up to 6 stars or using a cheat to create havoc on the city of Los Santos we never had a dull time playing this game.
To be honest, I could’ve filled this list with hundreds of other games and I can almost guarantee you that we have played them with the same intensity with the ones I have mentioned. This list is just a piece of a gigantic jigsaw puzzle from hour childhood and I could spend hours reminiscing of the awesome games that I used to play, so in short this list can’t ever be complete but maybe one day it will be and I will relish the day when that happens.
